HALF MOON BAY. This Arthur Hills course is a true Scottish links-style course with wide, rolling fairways that often serve up uneven lies. Trouble comes in the form of well-placed fairway and greenside bunkers and tall, wispy grasses that make shots out of the rough very challenging. These greens are average in size but very demanding. With most holes running along the coast and very few trees to provide protection, the wind can wreak havoc on even the smallest mistake. Of course, the scenery is something to brag about, even if your score is not.

SANTA CRUZ. The home of Alister MacKenzie, one of golf's most distinguished architects, this course overlooking Monterey Bay is a masterpiece. The biggest challenge lies in the barranca that winds throughout the course. With several holes requiring that you cross the hazard, penalty shots can add up if you're not hitting the ball well.

PEBBLE BEACH. A must-play for every avid golfer! Often tagged as the best course in the world, these narrow fairways and even smaller greens will make your knees shake. This course strikes fear into the best golfers, since the deep rough and unpredictable wind play mind games with players not hitting the ball straight. Magnificent vistas can be found throughout, thanks to the dramatic elevation on several holes. Lining the Pacific Ocean, the finishing hole is one of golf's most famous.

PEBBLE BEACH. Located on the world famous Monterey Peninsula about two hours south of San Francisco, this outstanding course is the first in the U.S. to be fully owned and operated by an amateur golf association. As one of the host courses of the AT&T National Pro Am, this course boasts well-guarded greens and demanding, tree-lined fairways. The greens are rather large and sloping, which will leave difficult long putts.

PEBBLE BEACH. Spyglass, which offers an unmatched challenge, is another spectacular course located in Pebble Beach. Situated on Spyglass Hill, its changes in elevation and rolling hills require you to hit every shot in your bag. Greens are average in size but very quick. One of the host sites for the AT&T National Pro-Am, this course is one of the toughest around.
